We operate two business lines: Boson Ventures (our ESVCLP Newton Fund) and Boson Collider (Australia's first VC-led deep tech pre-accelerator). Both businesses share resources and are built on the same core thesis: Australian deep tech, scaled through Asia.

The role

This is a high-leverage role at the intersection of investment and ecosystem development. You will be Boson's primary deal sourcing engine across all deep tech verticals in Melbourne — while bringing specialist healthcare and life sciences expertise to lead DD on bio/healthcare opportunities.

This role is designed for someone with a genuine healthcare or life sciences background who wants to build a career in deep tech VC — with real deal exposure, a strong GP team to learn from, and the scope to own relationships and outcomes from day one.

What you'll own

1. Ecosystem & Deal Sourcing — All Verticals

• Serve as Boson's primary deal sourcing engine across all deep tech verticals in Melbourne — healthcare, advanced manufacturing, materials science, clean tech, and AI/robotics
• Build and maintain relationships across Melbourne's deep tech ecosystem: university TTOs (Monash, University of Melbourne, RMIT, Deakin), hospital innovation units, medical research institutes (WEHI, MHRI, Burnet), accelerators, and founder communities
• Represent Boson at deep tech ecosystem events across all verticals — pitch nights, MedTech and materials conferences, university commercialisation forums, BioMelbourne Network, MTP Connect, and Melbourne Connect
• Develop relationships with co-investors, angels, family offices, and syndicate partners to build a collaborative deal network
• Identify and qualify inbound and outbound investment opportunities across all verticals against Boson's deep tech thesis

2. Investment Due Diligence — Healthcare Focus

• Lead DD execution on healthcare and life sciences opportunities — market analysis, competitive landscape, founder assessment, clinical and regulatory pathway evaluation
• Prepare investment memos, IC briefing materials, and deal summaries for healthcare deals
• Support DD on non-healthcare deals where sourcing context or generalist research is relevant — deeper technical DD on other verticals is led by the GP team
• Support portfolio monitoring across the healthcare portfolio: track KPIs, prepare quarterly updates, and identify follow-on opportunities

3. Fund-Wide Support

• As a small, high-leverage team, all roles at Boson contribute across the firm where needed — this may include supporting LP events, marketing initiatives, strategic projects, or other fund priorities as they arise

Who we're looking for

Must-haves

• Background in healthcare, life sciences, or biomedical sciences — whether through a science/medical degree, research experience, clinical background, or prior work in MedTech/biotech/digital health
• 2–4 years of experience in venture capital, investment banking, management consulting, healthcare startup, or a directly relevant field
• Genuine intellectual curiosity about healthcare and life sciences innovation — you follow the latest in therapeutics, medical devices, diagnostics, and digital health
• Genuine network or the demonstrated ability to build one quickly — in Melbourne's deep tech ecosystem at minimum
• Excellent written and verbal communication in English — you can write a crisp investment memo and hold your own in a founder or clinician meeting
• Strong structured thinking and problem-solving ability — you break down complex situations, form independent views, and drive toward clear recommendations
• High personal operating standards: reliable, detail-oriented, and comfortable owning outcomes end-to-end

Highly regarded

• High AI literacy and hands-on fluency with modern AI tools — particularly Claude Cowork, Claude Code, or equivalent agentic AI products. Boson runs an AI-first workflow and team members who can operate at the frontier of these tools have a significant advantage
• Bilingual English + Mandarin — Boson's China thesis means this is a genuine competitive advantage, particularly for China-facing healthcare deals
• Prior experience at an Australian healthcare VC, MedTech accelerator, hospital innovation unit, or university commercialisation office
• Existing relationships in Melbourne's deep tech or healthcare ecosystem (founders, clinicians, TTOs, BioMelbourne Network, MTP Connect)
• Experience working with early-stage healthcare or MedTech founders in a hands-on capacity
